TFD Responds to Keith Street Residential Fire
January 21, 2026
On Jan. 21, at approximately 12:45 p.m., the Tallahassee Fire Department (TFD) was dispatched to a reported residential structure fire on Keith Street.
Firefighters arrived on scene to find smoke coming from an occupied home. Crews made entry with hose lines and located a fire in the kitchen. Firefighters extinguished the fire within minutes.
Primary and secondary searches of the residence were completed, and it was confirmed that all occupants were safely out of the home. Two residents were displaced as a result of the fire.
The fire is believed to be accidental in nature.
Responding units included personnel from Stations 1, 3 and 4. TFD was assisted on scene by the Tallahassee Police Department, City of Tallahassee Utilities and Leon County EMS. The American Red Cross was contacted to assist the residents.
Kitchen fires are a leading cause of home fires nationwide. Below are tips from TFD to help reduce the risk of an accidental kitchen fire:
- Never leave the stove unattended while cooking.
- Set a timer to remind yourself to check on your dish.
- Turn pot handles toward the back of the stove so no one can bump them or pull them over.
- Move things that can burn, like kitchen towels, away from the stove.
- Ensure you have properly installed and maintained smoke alarms to alert you and your family to a fire 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
